Resetting the Dial

Hello from a snowy February here in Michigan ~

Turns out, the medical development that required me to slow down unexpectedly this month happened at the perfect time of hibernation!

Thank you thank you thank you to each and every person who reached out to share kind thoughts and wishes. I am grateful to report recovery is going smoothly at home.

The quote for this mid-mid-month note resonated with me as it has everything to do with mindset.

In my chosen profession, my days are spent listening and discussing the myriad issues affecting people’s lives. The privilege of being invited into the worlds of so many others is something I take very seriously.

What is strikingly evident in every single conversation is the choice we have, over and over and over again, to decide where we give our attention. The quote by William James is more than 100 years old, yet clearly as relevant in today’s world as ever.

I frequently reference a more recent iteration of this thought, by the motivational speaker and author, Tony Robbins, “Where attention goes, energy flows.”

These past few weeks have shown me how critical it is to protect and direct my energy. I have been more intentional in my gratitude practice, resetting the dial when I notice it moving in the direction of fear or anxiety.

I am certain the choice to be grateful and loving supports optimal calm within me. Consider this an invitation to be conscious of your energy and attention, and direct your thoughts with intention to ease the distress and noise of the world.

With loving gratitude,
