Precious Commodities

Happy March, my friend ~

After a whirlwind of a month - where exercising patience and slowing down became necessities - I am relieved to have returned to my office, to seeing clients, to my version of normalcy. As I observe the days getting longer, the sun peaking through the clouds, and the last heaps of snow melting, I feel blessed. Mother Nature, in her infinite wisdom and consistency, shows us the glimmers of a new season approaching.

I am deeply grateful for the extraordinary love and support shown in response to my personal sharing in the last two notes. Kindness arrived in many forms, including homemade food deliveries, transportation, and help with daily tasks.

As always, I relate my personal experience to my professional experience. My conversations with individuals and families often center around the theme of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). In the broadest scope, ADLs refer to basic tasks that individuals perform to maintain their personal care and independence.

As we age, many changes contribute to our capacity for maintaining our ADLs independently. We begin to appreciate, even more, our most precious commodities: autonomy and self-determination. My recovery reminded me of these precious gifts, as well as what is necessary to sustain them: self-motivation, a village of support, and receptivity.

I am taking this opportunity to offer a very special Thank You to Jessica and to Jeremy, whose support behind-the-scenes, especially during this time of physical healing, has been invaluable.

Jessica: Your constant support of my efforts are a daily lifeline. Your kindness, warmth, and encouragement is felt by me and by our clients every day. Thank you for being YOU.

Jeremy: Your consistent encouragement of my ideas fuels my capacity to keep going, especially in moments when fatigue sets in and challenges my resilience. Thank you for your authentic and unwavering belief in me.

Indeed, my heart muscles have been strengthened, as you - my entire support system - have lifted my spirit. May we continue to be this strength and support for each other.

With loving gratitude,
