Cavort, Dear, Just Cavort

Hello, my friends ~

Earlier this year, I was given a book entitled Daily Gratitude: 365 Days of Reflection, published by National Geographic.

Today I flipped the pages and was greeted by the quote above, attributed to Carol Burnett. The word cavort was familiar to me, yet I decided to look up its formal meaning. Verb: to jump or dance around excitedly.

Seems fitting, given we’re in mid-July; a mid-summer vibe lending itself toward lightness and a carefree spirit.

Isn’t it interesting how one sentence can conjure up a sense of freedom? A simple directive: “cavort, dear, just cavort.”

Yet is it that simple?

As with most things in life (and the ideas I tend to write about), the answer to this existential question lives on a continuum between yes and no. Yes, we can be joyful in the present moment and, as most of us become aware throughout adulthood, many layers of life contribute to our sense of being able to access contentment, let alone joy.

Whether you find yourself at ease or in struggle, start here to reset yourself: exhale and release. Ask yourself: what is one quality I can embody today to define who I am?

Calm. Aware. Open. Receptive. Certain.

Choose your own adventure here. Perhaps you seek to be in motion, to be decisive, to be present. In any one of these ways of being you are creating your reality. Commit to your intention by breathing into it, and set this way of being you choose for yourself today.

This is a conversation familiar to many of my clients, and I am always intrigued by the feedback people share with me from trying this practice. I’d love to hear how it resonates with you.

You may have noticed this note is coming to you at the mid-month point. Perhaps the ‘cavorting’ quote was divinely ordered, as summertime activities have kept me pleasantly busy enough to have missed sending a beginning-of-the-month note for July. Grateful for the good.

In the name of wellness, I am excited to share some announcements with you. Please continue scrolling for more info.

And, be sure to catch this episode of the Start My Wellness podcast on the topic of Aging & Caregiving.

Yours in summertime spirit,

Karen
