Try This On For Size
Dear Friend ~
Here I am once again, landing gently in your inbox, hoping November has greeted you well.
I have been in a creative space recently, especially in the realm of discovering new opportunities to engage my mind, body, and spirit. Tap dancing (first timer here!), Qigong yoga, a gospel choir performance…these are a few of the ways I’ve opened myself up to new experiences.
This led me to think about my conversations with clients throughout each day. People often enter a session expressing overwhelm about something that feels insurmountable.
It could be a lifestyle change, a move, a diagnosis.
Our discussions often serve as a reminder - one we usually know yet tend to forget when we experience something challenging - to take it one step at a time.
And yes, even ‘one step’ requires brave willingness to do something we’ve resisted, which can look like procrastination or outright denial. Try this on for size is a suggestion I offer to dissolve limitations taken on when we’ve convinced ourselves that something won't work.
It's in the trying where the magic happens. One step may not always feel magical, yet it takes us one movement closer to seeing what is possible. When it turns out to be as good or better than what we originally expected, we are empowered, and this leads to infinitely more confidence.
Looking up at the whole staircase can feel overwhelming. Taking a first step begets the next step, and the next. We often lose sight of the progress made, when suddenly, we've reached the top of the staircase...the one that was once insurmountable.
The efforts you make today are already paying themselves forward in ways seen and unseen. Be proud of yourself each step of the way.
Bravely yours,
