If It Is To Be, It’s Up To Me
I first learned this phrase from my grandmother, who had written it on a yellow Post-it note and affixed it to her refrigerator door. At the time, the power of the phrase came from hearing my grandma speak the words. With such zeal in her voice, the message my young adult self heard was clear: Believe in myself.
This quote returned to me unexpectedly years later, in a transformational training. The moment I saw the words, printed in big, bold letters at the front of the room, tears streamed down my face. The power of the phrase remained undeniable. This time, my midlife adult self heard: I am at choice to create my reality.
Every moment represents an opportunity to make a new choice. Asking ourselves what is possible in this moment reminds us of this power we each possess. Circumstances do not dictate our reality; our response to those circumstances shapes our experience of the world around us.
The invitation is yours for the taking: when life happens, consciously p a u s e. Take a deep breath. In this pause, ask yourself, “What else is possible?” May this simple question open exponential new gateways of opportunity for you.
