Valuing the Unexpected

It’s June ~ Hello, Summertime!

Who here has ever experienced an outcome that looked different from a desired goal or expectation?

I would expect to see a room full of hands raised.

Right? I mean, isn’t that the human condition?

This quote struck a chord as I read it during a week that happened to be chock full of ‘getting used to what I didn’t expect’. In multiple areas of my life, it felt like a daily walk through a figurative question mark. What’s gonna be?

Many of us are familiar with the saying, “Man plans, G-d laughs.” Life demonstrates this truth in many ways. Our intellectual capacity to assess and discern life’s unfolding path determines how we move forward (or get stuck).

The journey of getting older would appear to be the great determiner of how people respond to the unexpected. To use a third quote, “This too shall pass” seems to become a more relatable refrain through accumulated life experiences.

In other words: we plan, life happens, and time marches on.

Hopefully, outcomes reveal more unexpected joys and new opportunities than sorrows and misadventures. The key is being able to shift as needed to respond with an open heart and mind.

June is here; 2024 is nearly halfway through. How will you reflect on the successes and setbacks so far this year? How will you realize the value in both as the year continues?

Wishing you poise and resilience,
